About: Made this in 2019. My original description was: I hadn't made a layout in over a year, potentially two years. My creative side was feeling neglected, so I decided to throw something together to see if I still could. And this was the result! It's utter chaos, I'm aware. It's a mess, it's kind of sloppy, but that's always been my style as you'll see throughout the many pages of this archive. My recent love has been the Kpop group Stray Kids, and I adore the lyrics to this song because they resonate with me so deeply. It wasn't a layout that I had to really think through, I just had fun with it, but I'm proud of it and I love how it turned out. And although it looks like chaos with no rhyme or reason, I promise you that if you look at it deeply, you'll notice a new detail each time.

knitting adventures p.1

Getting back into knitting and 1) my hands hurt bc I didn't take a break after knitting for 2 hours and 2) learning new stuff is fun but also... so frustrating. I'm so much more confident in my abilities to do the basic stuff - like my stockinette is actually perfect. So I felt it was time to start learning some more intermediate stuff, like increases, decreases, and learning how to read patterns. I ended up buying 2 cool patterns for cheap to make some witchy spider-webby type shawls, both of which require the use of yarn overs, sssks, and knitting multiple stitches into one, so I'm just playing around and practicing learning those things that way. And it's... hard. Like it really isn't, but getting the knowledge from my brain to my fingers is the challenge. And also, I knit so tightly and it makes sense bc I'm so anxious and struggle with having to control everything. But it is something I need to work on, so it's good practice. And then hopefully I can practice it a couple times and get some nice yarn to make the real thing.

I do really want to get better at knitting and actually make things. Because, like I said, I do knit well. I just need to try and stick with it to make stuff. I'm still working on a blanket for my cat and I'm hoping to get back into it soon. The first one I made is okay but def had a few mistakes I'd like to fix. I need to do a stretchy bind-off and try to avoid accidental yarn overs. Funny how I struggled to learn them but made them so frequently by accident in earlier projects.

I also want to get some nice yarn, like maybe some black mohair or something. I have some cute yarn but realistically idk if it'll work with the types of projects I want to do. So I'll have to get lost in the yarn aisle at Michael's a few times, and probably scrounge around all the thrift stores and free stashes at one of the local libraries and see what I can find. It'll be fun to learn more about different types of yarn and all that. The big book I bought recently helps a lot with the basics so I'll probably do some more research.

Honestly I'd love to get to a point where I could just make stuff without a pattern. That'd be dope as fuck, like just play around and make stuff and create patterns of my own, even. I like to be pessimistic like "oh that'll never be me" but there's no reason it can't be lol I do knit slowly bc my fine motor skills suck and my hands are weak, but I could probably still do cool stuff if I can practice and keep at it.

some craft stuff

Trying to figure out how I want to do this lol bc I have no idea. Should I have all my posts on the main page, should I separate them by type, should I try to do an iframe thing like I used to... idk really bc i don't want to have to update every single page every time i change the layout but also, that wouldn't take that much work. idk we'll play around.

But anyway, I wanted to show off my most recent collage journal page. Because I am obnoxiously proud of it. I know that the prettiest parts of it are less of my own work and more just the gorgeous craft paper I used, but I really love the embellishments I added. Gluing moss to paper and adding little bits and bobs is such a fun craft to do.

So some background about it, I was just playing around with the fairy craft paper I have and let myself go wild. I have fake moss I bought to decorate a little glass case I put some crystals into (I'll share that another time) and was like... why not. This was after I had put a few stickers and adornments on. My favorite thing is probably the little envelope I made and the somewhat marbled-looking sealing wax I mixed and put on it. Wax seals are fun to make but I am definitely not the best at it, it's an art I have pretty much zero experience with aside from the time I burnt the fuck out of my hand using one of the stick forms :') So this was good enough. But adding the moss was a neat time, and then I cut out some mushrooms and decided to make some 3D-esque elements by not gluing them down all the way. I added some lil vine-looking pieces too. It was fun and I love it. Very whimsical and Springtime feeling. I love mixed media.

I might do a little junk/collage journal "tour" at some point bc I love making silly stuff with random things I have laying around. I have a shit ton of Pokemon stickers and I have a purple Pokemon collage I made. I'm going to do pink and blue Pokemon next. Maybe do some pride flag designs bc that would be cute.

I also realized that this is essentially what I used to do when making layouts in Photoshop. I mean, compare this to the layout above lol it's a similar concept, taking things that already exist and editing them in new ways to create something new. I just do it in a more physical, tactile way now. I'd love to make web layouts again and maybe I'll try dabbling and playing around with Gimp eventually. But for now, collaging and junk journaling are fun.
